Pasta 101

Although pasta is a staple in many parts of the world, we normally associate it with Italian culture. This is probably because they were one of the first folks to figure out how good pasta is with some delicious tomato sauce added. Below are some common pastas and sauces with their descriptions. 

Pasta

• Ravioli: Small, square pillows.
  
• Tortellini: Small rings stuffed usually with meat or cheese 
  
• Spaghetti: String-shaped pasta
  
• Linguini: Pasta in the form of narrow ribbons
  
• Fetuccine: Pasta cut in flat narrow strips 
• Capellini (Angel Hair): Long, thin strands 
  
• Lasagna: Wide, flat, rectangular strips of pasta

Sauces 

• Southern Italy brings us the red, tomato-based sauces like marinara and bolognese (and of course, pizza!) 
  
• Northern Italy is famous for its buttery, white cream-based sauces like Alfredo
